WASHINGTON — In rare bipartisanship, Illinois Republicans and Democrats united on Wednesday to oppose President Donald Trump’s removal of troops from Syria, clearing the way for Turkish forces to attack Kurds who had been allied with the U.S.

The resolution, titled “Opposing the decision to end certain United States efforts to prevent Turkish military operations against Syrian Kurdish forces in Northeast Syria,” was approved on a 354-60 roll call.

The five Republican in the House from Illinois — John Shimkus; Rodney Davis; Michael Bost; Darin LaHood; and Adam Kinzinger — were among the 129 Republicans who joined Democrats in backing the measure.
