'Illegal' prison TikTok account wiped over Croxteth gangster's rap videos

A TikTok account posting rap videos featuring what appeared to be an imprisoned former member of the infamous Croxteth Crew has been deleted.

Wesley Brown, 38, was jailed indefinitely for public protection and ordered to serve a minimum of three years and 50 weeks for firearms offences in 2006. In 2017, when he was 33, he organised an illegal phone smuggling gang while serving time at HMP Manchester.

The ex-gangster hit headlines again in January 2021 when videos posted to YouTube saw him rebrand himself as a rapper, with a well-produced music video which showed mask-clad men driving around Croxteth on quad bikes and scrambler bikes. A man who appeared to be Brown was shown rapping in a balaclava in a jail cell, saying: "I pray every night for the roads, I've still got lives to take."

The Ministry of Justice requested the removal of the video from YouTube. However, a TikTok account under the stage name Wesavelli_l11, was set up and continued to post what appeared to be his rap songs.

One video, featuring a balaclava-clad man in orange prison overalls, makes reference to known Liverpool gangs - the Croxteth Young Guns (CYG) and the "Crocky" Crew (CC).

Another video showed masked men in blood-stained white overalls wielding hammers, along with the lyrics: "I want p****, I want money, I want metal. Sex, money, shmurder (shoot and murder), what you reckon?". Yet another showed a man in a balaclava posing with guns.

The account was deleted on Wednesday, January 11, after it was brought to the attention of the Ministry of Justice. However, several of the videos still remain on YouTube.

The Prison Act states it is an offence within a prison for anyone to possess unauthorised electronic devices capable of transmitting or receiving images, sounds or information, including mobile phones.

The maximum penalty for conviction for possession of a mobile phone is two years imprisonment, a fine, or both.

A Ministry of Justice spokesperson said: “This account has now been removed from TikTok. Anyone found in possession of a phone may face extra time behind bars.

“Our £100 million investment in airport-style security has already blocked more than 20,000 attempts to smuggle contraband into prisons.”
