Illegal New Years Eve gathering spotted in Eastville Park

An illegal New Years Eve gathering attended by up to 30 people has been spotted in Eastville Park.

Video footage shows the group wearing fancy dress and blaring out music at around 3pm today (Thursday).

Officers were called to the event - which was breaking our city's Tier 3 Covid restrictions - but by the time they arrived, the party had dispersed.

An Avon and Somerset police spokesperson said: "We were called about a group at 2:45pm.

"There was around 30 people there.

"Officers went down there, but they couldn't see anyone."

The force has urged everyone to 'act selflessly' tonight.

They tweeted: "We're urging everyone to be sensible and follow the COVID-19 restrictions. The overwhelming majority of people are and we want people to continue to act selflessly tonight."

Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire are currently in Tier 3 restrictions, which mean people can meet with up to six others outdoors.

Those flouting the rules by organising parties or gatherings face a £10,000 fine, while those attending could be hit with a £100 penalty.
