Illegal house party broken up by police as latest rule breakers fined

An illegal house party was halted by police leading to six people from different households being fined.

Officers attended the address in Warrington on Saturday following reports a gathering was taking place at a property.

Fines were issued to six people, four men and two women, for breaches of Covid-19 measures.

A Cheshire Police spokesman said: "We issued fines to six people in Warrington for breaches of Covid-19 lockdown regulations.

“Officers were called to an address following reports of a party taking place.

“They engaged with people at the property and explained the current restrictions.

“In the end, they had no choice but to enforce the regulations due to this blatant breach and fines were issued to four men and two women from different households who were inside at the time.

“We don’t want to stop anyone from enjoying themselves, but we all need to stick to the rules and help to reduce the spread of the virus – we will always engage, explain and encourage people to follow the regulations, but sometimes enforcement action is necessary.

“Thankfully, the vast majority of people are sticking to the rules and we urge you to continue to do so.”

Earlier today, it emerged how close contacts of people who have tested positive for coronavirus will be offered repeated testing rather than being required to isolate under new plans to be piloted in Liverpool.

Currently those deemed to have been in contact with a Covid-positive person - such as Prime Minister Boris Johnson - are required to isolate for 14 days.

But the scheme will see people allowed to undergo daily tests for a week and not have to self-isolate unless they test positive themselves.

Yesterday, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said cases in Liverpool have been brought down "really quite remarkably" following the roll-out of mass testing.

He added: "In Liverpool, cases are down by more than two-thirds in the last few weeks.

"And this is a combination, of course, of those restrictions that have been in place, but also in Liverpool we put in mass testing.

"They've tested over 200,000 people of the just over half a million who live in Liverpool.

"And they've found a load more people who were asymptomatic, didn't know that they had a problem, didn't know they have the virus.

"And the combination of the mass testing, and the measures in Liverpool, have brought the cases down really quite remarkably, much faster than I would have thought was possible."
