A vulnerable, elderly man whose disappearance sparked a widescale search in bushland in Sydney's north has been found wedged between trees.
Ronald Weaver, 79, was found in North Wahroonga bushland about 11.30am on Friday, 73 hours after he was last seen in neighbouring Wahroonga.
Emergency services spent substantial time trying to free Mr Weaver, who has Alzheimer's disease, after SES volunteers discovered him.
"He will be taken to hospital for treatment and some much-needed rest," NSW Police said in a statement on Friday afternoon.
More than 100 people on foot, horses and trail bikes had been involved in the search after Mr Weaver wandered off from a home in Wahroonga about 10am on Tuesday.
He had been dressed in a T-shirt, grey shorts, socks and shoes.
The NSW State Emergency Service, NSW Rural Fire Service and the National Parks and Wildlife Service were also involved in the search.
Mr Weaver's wife on Thursday pleaded with the public to help find her "lovely husband".
"He is a good person. Even though he has Alzheimer's, I believe he still deserves quality of life," Hannah Weaver told reporters.
"He remembers his name even though he doesn't remember his date of birth."
Police had held grave concerns for Mr Weaver's health and wellbeing because of his medical condition.
