Ilkley Moor fire: Firefighters tackle 2 huge blazes covering 50 acres of land

Fire crews are tackling two huge blazes on moorland covering more than 50 acres.

Smoke was seen rising from Ilkley Moor near Leeds at around 3pm on Saturday afternoon, Leeds Live reports , while a second fire was spotted near a pub in Bingley.

Dramatic photos and footage shared on social media show the blaze taking hold in the unusually warm weather yesterday.

More than a dozen fire crews from across Yorkshire rushed to the scene to try and extinguish the fires as the scorching Easter temperatures caused problems on the moorland.

While no one is being told that they must evacuate their homest, people who live on the southern edge of Ilkley - closest to the moor - have been offered alternative places to stay for the night if they wish.

Bradford Council also appealed to residents living near the fire to stay indoors and keep their windows closed.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Police and Fire Service are currently in attendance near to Dick Hudsons Pub, Bingley and are advising anyone to avoid the path that runs between here and The Cow and Calf, Ilkley due to a moor fire.

"The fire is blocking the main footpath so please avoid the area whilst the Fire Service attempt to get the fire under control."
