Ilkay Gundogan offers update on Leroy Sane's Man City future amid Bayern Munich reports

Ilkay Gundogan believes his Manchester City and Germany teammate Leroy Sane will remain at the club, despite reported interest from Bayern Munich.

Sane endured a difficult end to his season, starting just four of City's final 15 games in all competitions after falling out of favour with manager Pep Guardiola.

That prompted reports that German giants Bayern Munich are pursuing a move for the 23-year-old this summer, and are confident of getting their man as a replacement for outgoing wingers Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben.

But Gundogan, whose City future is also yet to be resolved, has dismissed the speculation, and claimed it comes as part and parcel of City's success this season.

He told Sport Bild (via Goal ): "If players in our team at one or another time do not play, it has now become a normal fact that there are automatic rumours.

"As our coach has already said, the club wants to keep Leroy. I know Leroy very well and know that he can prevail anywhere.

“But Leroy has to comment on his plans for the future when he does so, so I will not be distributing any public advice.”

Gundogan was referring to Guardiola's comments that the club want to keep Sane.

"Leroy we are one and a half years trying to sign his [new] contract. We want him," Guardiola said before the FA Cup final.

"If you want to extend his contract, it’s because you want him. You’re not going to extend his contract because you don’t want him. It’s like Gundogan, for example - it’s the same case."
