Ilkay Gundogan has revealed that he is 'really not sure' what his favourite position is in the Man City midfield.
Gundogan arrived at City as an attack-minded midfield and is usually deployed by Pep Guardiola on the left of the midfield three. Although he has never been the most prolific of goalscorer, he has often been involved in attacks thanks to his brilliant passing.
However, in a time of crisis last season when the crucial Fernandinho was ruled out for a number of weeks through injury, it was Gundogan who filled the void.
The former Borussia Dortmund man initially struggled in the new position but once he got to grips with the role he excelled in defensive midfield and helped City claim an unprecedented treble triumph.
Playing in the new position saw Gundogan have some of his best performances in a City shirt and he has admitted he no longer knows what his favourite position is.
"It has always been playing as No 8 for many many years," the German wrote in a Twitter Q&A.
"But I’ve really enjoyed playing as No 6 in the last weeks of the last season. Maybe these matches have been the best ones for Man City so far.
"I’m really not sure anymore, what do you think guys?"
Gundogan also revealed the worst and best moments of his career so far.
"The worst: back injury in 2013/14. For a couple of weeks I was not sure if I can continue my football career.
"The best: When I was in the school playground in Gelsenkirchen and my Uncle Ilhan came around to tell me I’m going to sign my 1st professional contract at Nuernberg."
