Ilkay Gundogan explains contract stance as Rodri pinpoints Erling Haaland's Man City impact

Here are your Manchester City evening headlines on Saturday, May 28.

Gundogan explains contract stance

lkay Gundogan will seek assurances over his playing time when he discusses a new contract with City.

Gundogan, 31, has a year left on his City contract and ruled out a summer transfer recently after scoring the Blues' decisive title-winning goals in their final-day comeback vs Aston Villa last week.

In the club's title celebrations, Gundogan said he was committed to staying for the final year of his current contract, and reiterated his intention to sit down for contract talks this summer. Now, he has indicated that he will only sign a new deal if the conditions are right, even if he repeated his claim that he is happy in Manchester and at City.

Rodri on Haaland's impact

Rodri believes that Manchester City are ready-made to welcome Erling Haaland, but will have to change their system for the incoming striker.

City have operated without a recognised striker for the best part of two seasons, with Sergio Aguero injured for much of 2020/21, before he departed last summer and a failed attempt to sign Harry Kane left City without a 'number nine'. Now, it seems that City are in a better position having missed out on Kane, as they have won the race to sign Haaland for just £51m.

Haaland will give City the focal point they have arguably lacked in the last two years, although they have secured back-to-back Premier League titles using a false nine. And midfielder Rodri believes that City's quality means they will be able to adapt their system to accommodate Haaland's strengths.
