Ilkay Gundogan compares Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp as Man City battle Liverpool for title

Ilkay Gundogan has stated that Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp are not too dissimilar - as they're both happy to administer a stern telling off.

The German midfielder has played under both managers, with Klopp during his time at Borussia Dortmund, and now with Guardiola at Man City .

Klopp has since developed Liverpool into City's main title rivals as the two bosses battle it out for Premier League dominance.

And Gundogan has outlined why the two bosses are so successful.

“There are the two coaches who stand for the two different styles that are currently on the market,” Gundogan told Süddeutsche Zeitung (via Sport Witness ).

“They live full intensity, are incredibly demanding; you can not switch off for a second in training. Otherwise, there’s a b******ing.

“You may be a little bit more scared of Klopp because he’s so big and loud and shows so many teeth.”

Klopp signed Gundogan, 28, mid-way through his tenure with Dortmund, with the midfielder helping the club retain the Bundesliga title in his first season.

He was also part of the side that reached the 2013 Champions League final before Klopp's eventual departure in 2015.

Guardiola moved to sign Gundogan in 2016, and he has since won five major honours under the Spaniard.

City have some work to do already to catch Liverpool in the title race however, after finding themselves eight points behind.

A win in their game in hand over Wolves on Sunday would see them reduce the deficit, with just three more Premier League matches to come before the sides face off at Anfield on November 10.

Man Utd legend Wayne Rooney offered his thoughts on the current battle between the two rivals, and tipped Liverpool to end their wait for a title.

"In my opinion, Liverpool look the strongest," Rooney said during an interview with IFL TV, cited by HITC .

"City are a fantastic team.

"I think Liverpool have improved on last year, whereas City have stayed at that level of great consistency, so I think Liverpool."
