Ilkay Gundogan and Hansi Flick agree over Leroy Sane as Chelsea look to complete £54m transfer

Chelsea are interested in signing Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane this summer, according to reports.

The 25-year-old, who still has just under four years remaining on his contract at the Bundesliga champions, has been linked with a move away from the German club recently as he continues to struggle in Munich.

Sane was booed by his club's supporters and brought off at half-time in a recent 3-2 win over Koln after struggling in the first-half of the Bundesliga clash.

His Bayern team-mate Thomas Muller issued his support for Sane following the match, saying: "Leroy definitely has the absolute support from us in the team and I hope that this can also be carried over to the ranks."

However, Chelsea may be looking to take advantage of Sane's unfortunate situation at the Allianz Arena, with the Express reporting that the Blues could look to offload one of three players in a swap deal for the Germany international.

But, Sane is unlikely to come cheap, even with a player included, with leading football database Transfermarkt valuing the former Manchester City winger at £54million.

The German attacker showed during his time at the Etihad Stadium that he has talent, but things have not been ideal for him since moving back to his home country.

He does, though, have some pretty big-name admirers in Ilkay Gundogan and Hansi Flick.

Speaking with SPORT1 over the summer, Gundogan was asked his opinion on his former Man City team-mate and his lack of game time at Bayern Munich.

"He's someone who has this understanding of playing all of the time. And when he plays, then he's amazing," Gundogan said.

"I know of him from our time with Man City. At Man City, you had the feeling that there was no way around him."

Flick, who managed Sane during his time with Bayern but now does with the Germany national team, recently spoke about his winger's quality.

"I think he showed what quality he has," Flick said to reporters after their 2-0 win over Liechtenstein last week.

"I am happy when he is so agile, so active, because he is on the move with an ease that is impressive.

"At the moment you have the feeling that he has a lot of self-confidence. That's exactly what he needs. He's on a really good way."

Chelsea currently have an array of attacking players that play in a similar position to Sane, but if he does become available, either in January or the summer transfer window next year, then it could be too good to turn down.
