Ilford stabbing victim Che Morrison pictured as police call for witnesses to come forward

This is the first image of a young man stabbed to death outside a busy station in the latest wave of knife crime in London.

The 20-year-old victim was named by police today as Che Morrison.

He was attacked in a fight outside Ilford station just before 8.50pm on Tuesday - the fifth fatal knife attack in London in just nine days.

Today his family issued a statement saying: “Ché was a loving, respectful son, brother, grandchild, nephew, uncle, cousin and a loyal friend. He was loved by all who knew him.

Medics and bystanders including schoolchildren battled to save the victim but he was pronounced dead at the scene (PA)

“Ché was a very ambitious young man and had many aspirations for his future.

“There are no words to express how the family and close friends feel at this time, they are all deeply shocked that his life has been cut short.”

The victim was stabbed to death after a series of 'skirmishes', witnesses said (PA)

Detectives renewed appeals for witnesses to the attack to come forward saying the area was busy at the time.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Cranwell, who is leading the murder hunt, said: “There will have been a number of people who would have seen the incident involving Ché and the events that followed. I would urge anyone who has yet to contact police to please do so immediately.

“This tragedy has left a family devastated and those responsible need to be apprehended.”

Some witnesses to the attack said they saw two people were fighting outside the station and there had been a series of “skirmishes” beforehand.

Earlier the same day a 25-year-old man was stabbed in an attack in Enfield. He remains critically ill in hospital.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the incident room on 020 8721 4054 or tweet @MetCC. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
