Former Real Madrid and Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas has rejected reports that he has retired from football.
Portuguese sports paper O Jogo claimed on Thursday that the 37-year-old had hung up his boots following his recent heart attack, but the Porto goalkeeper took to Twitter to deny that information as he gave an update on his recovery.
“Good afternoon everyone!” Casillas wrote on Twitter. “Retire? There will come a time when I have to retire. Let me announce that news when the moments arrives.
“Right now, I’m relaxed. Yesterday I had a check-up with Dr. Filipe Macedo. Everything is very good. That is a great piece of news I wanted to share with you all!”
Casillas suffered a heart attack during Porto training on May 1st and was rushed to hospital, where he was kept in for five days before returning home.
"The most important thing is to be here," he told reporters as he left the medical centre. "A few days ago I went through a difficult situation, something that can happen at any moment of life, but fortunately I'm fine. I am grateful and feel that I am very lucky.”
