Iker Casillas issues one-word verdict on David de Gea's Manchester United performance

David de Gea has been the centre of the attention for his influence in Manchester United's third successive win in the Premier League after their 1-0 win over Norwich.

Cristiano Ronaldo scored the ultimate goal that decided the fixture but it was the 31-year-old at the other end that denied Dean Smith's side from earning something from the close affair.

The Spaniard was awarded the man-of-the-match award by former United defender Gary Neville after De Gea halted the Canaries onslaught as they chased an equaliser.

One of the standout saves came from Teemu Pukki who swivelled and unleashed a fierce left-footed strike only to be denied by the fine reflexes of the Reds number one.

His performance added to the growing list of standout displays from the shot-stopper as Manchester United enjoy the return to form.

He received plaudits from World Cup and European Championship-winning goalkeeper Iker Casillas who lauded his display. The former Real Madrid captain commented: "Amazing!!" on his Instagram post.

The win helped United move into fifth above Arsenal and ahead of Tottenham - who have two games in hand after the postponements of two of their last three due to adverse weather conditions and a Covid outbreak respectively.

The clean sheet was just their third of the season domestically and the first time this campaign that the Reds successfully shut out the opposition in successive matches.

"The second half was a little bit better but at the end we were lucky to have a clean sheet and there were two or three clean sheets by David de Gea," Ralf Rangnick praised speaking after the clash.

"It's another clean sheet but still a lot of work to do.

"The second half I was not at all happy with the amount of corners that we gave away, but we got the three points.

"We have conceded the highest amount of goals in the top ten. Now we have two clean sheets which is good but we still need to improve on that away, especially against physical teams or teams that attack high like Norwich did.

"It’s also a question of body language and physicality and this was one of the major issues that we could have done better."
