Iker Casillas delivers Gianluigi Donnarumma transfer claim amid Chelsea links

Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas has had his say on AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma's future amid links to Chelsea.

Donnarumma is out of contract at San Siro this summer and is now free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with clubs outside of Italy ahead of the summer.

Unsurprisingly, AC Milan are attempting to keep their star stopper and according to reports, they are willing to offer him a contract worth €7.5million plus bonuses.

But no deal has been struck yet and the door, for now, at least, is open the likes of Chelsea, who are being tipped to sign the Italian despite only signing Edouard Mendy in the winter.

And amid those reports, Real Madrid and Spain legend and former goalkeeper Casillas has had his say on Donnarrumma's situation, claiming the 21-year-old should consider leaving Milan.

Casillas wrote on Twitter: "In my opinion, Donnarumma should play at a club with more tradition. My error!! AC Milan has tradition. I mean more importance in Europe right now. Good night everyone!! See you tomorrow. Maybe..."

The former Spain stopper wrote that after Donnarumma featured for AC Milan on Saturday night, keeping a clean sheet as his side defeated Torino in Serie A.

As Casillas refers to, AC Milan are in the Europa League this year rather than the Champions League, but they look set to return to UEFA's premier competition, currently top of Serie A and three points ahead of rivals Inter Milan.

AC Millan's current situation might just tempt Donnarumma to stay with the promise of the club returning to the height of Europe, though that might just depend on the options that become available.

Currently ninth in the Premier League, Chelsea can hardly promise Champions League football next season at this point, but they do have the squad to turn things around and they could well be in a position to offer a more significant wage, particularly given the transfer fee the Blues would save with Donnarumma valued at more than £60million by most.
