Teen swimming star Rikako Ikee, who has been undergoing treatment for leukemia that suddenly curtailed her career, posted a photo of herself in a swimming pool on Instagram on Tuesday.

It was Ikee's first venture into the pool for training since she was diagnosed with the disease in February last year.

The post consisted of two photos of a smiling Ikee in a swimsuit giving the peace sign. She also wrote: "I finally got permission from the doctor at the hospital and was able to get into the pool. It's been 406 days!"

The post continued: "I am ecstatic beyond words. It feels so great and I'm so happy. There is now a new coronavirus outbreak, but I, like everyone else, hope that everyone takes the necessary precautions and that the virus can be contained as soon as possible."
