Ikea set to reopen Dublin stores next week

Ikea is set to reopen its Dublin stores on Monday once the first phase of the easing of lockdown restrictions is approved.

The Swedish furniture giant, which has stores in Ballymun and Carrickmines, will be taking a number of measures to protect staff and customers.

These include the limiting of numbers of customers in store, cashless payment and only allowing groups of a maximum of two.

Plexiglass will be installed at checkouts, service points and planning areas, report RTE.

Social distance wardens in both stores will ensure that measures are being adhered to.

The first phase of the Governments plan to ease lockdown restrictions is due to commence on Monday, May 18 with many retailers set to reopen.

Fast food chain McDonald's will also reopen six Dublin outlets next week.

It is not yet known which outlets will open but a number of measures will be introduced in the restaurants.

Guidelines being introduced to protect staff and customers include:

  • Spend cap of €30 per car
  • Fewer people in the kitchen and service areas, serving a reduced menu over reduced hours;
  • The use of contactless thermometers, with temperatures checked on arrival at work
  • Perspex screens in key locations in the kitchen and service areas;
  • Protective equipment for our people including gloves for customer and courier facing positions and face masks, but not the type needed by healthcare professionals;
  • And additional training on cleanliness practices, including increased frequency of handwashing and extra sanitising of touch points around the restaurant
