Ikea's warning to customers will help save returning shoppers a lot of time

As Ikea stores across the UK continue to plan a phased reopening for customers, plenty of measures have been put in place to make safety a priority.

Those heading to reopened Ikea stores in England will find limits on the amount of customers allowed in store, as well as restricted car parking, reduced shopping hours and more facilities such as hand sanitiser and screens at checkouts.

However, Ikea has now issued a plea to returning customers wishing to bring back unwanted items, reports The Mirror.

In a request they hope will be followed, Ikea has made a plea to shoppers trying to queue up to return items.

Ikea's Country Retail Manager for the UK and Ireland, Peter Jelkeby, listed it among the measures the company is taking to make safety and social distancing a priority.

It reads: "Those wishing purely to return items are encouraged to do so at a later date. IKEA has a 365 day returns policy."

Customers are also urged to come prepared with ready-made lists and their own bags in a bid to speed up the shopping process and limit the chances of virus transmission.

Mr Jelkeby said the safety of workers and customers was Ikea's biggest priority.

He added: "We are working to a comprehensive global Reopening Manual, which is adapted and fully aligned to meet and support UK guidance and social distancing requirements.

"The plan is developed nationally and then adapted to each region, nation and store.

"Risk, legal and Public Affairs have maintained a consistent dialogue with the authorities, including the UK government, devolved administrations, Primary Authority, health bodies and others to ensure we have clarity at all times on what the plan needs to deliver."
