IKEA responds to claims that stores may open in two weeks' time despite coronavirus pandemic

Some Edinburgh locals may have seen rumours of a possibility that they could be making a trip to Ikea in just two weeks.

Reports that the furniture store would open back up 18 UK locations on May 18 have been circulating, but Ikea wants to set the record straight.

With everyone stuck at home in lockdown, and with many on furlough from their jobs, it is natural that people have been eagerly anticipating the stores' re-openings.

IKEA closed its doors on Friday, March 20 and unfortunately, it doesn't look set to open back up.

When asked about the rumours, Ikea responded: "For now, all our stores across the UK and Ireland remain closed.

"We are looking forward to welcoming customers back to our stores and will only do so as the situation allows, in line with government guidance."

Ikea added: "As a responsible company we are making extensive plans, and adopting even further enhanced safety measures, so that when we do reopen, our customers and co-workers feel safe and comfortable in our stores.

"The health and safety of our customers, co-workers and suppliers remains our highest priority."

It looks Edinburgh shoppers won't be making a trip to Straiton any time soon, however, the good news is the online store remains open, with customers able to order some flat-pack furniture and more to their front doors.
