IKEA responds to claims that stores could open in two weeks time

IKEA has responded to claims that they are preparing to reopen their stores last this month.

The Swedish megastore was reportedly planning to reopen 18 stores across the UK on May 18.

The chain were forced to close all 22 of their UK and Ireland branches on March 20 as part of the government's coronavirus restrictions.

Fans of IKEA have been eagerly awaiting the stores' re-openings, particularly following the decision from Homebase and B&Q to reopen selected locations.

However, IKEA remains tight-lipped on its plans to reopen locations, which include a huge store in Braehead.

When asked about the claims, an IKEA spokesperson said: "For now, all our stores across the UK and Ireland remain closed.

"We are looking forward to welcoming customers back to our stores and will only do so as the situation allows, in line with government guidance.

"As a responsible company we are making extensive plans, and adopting even further enhanced safety measures, so that when we do reopen, our customers and co-workers feel safe and comfortable in our stores.

"The health and safety of our customers, co-workers and suppliers remains our highest priority."
