Ikea respond to rumours it is opening again on Monday

Since lockdown rules were relaxed earlier this week, more stores have opened across the country having been closed temporarily due to the coronavirus.

Dobbies garden centres and Wickes have both reopened some stores and certain Starbucks, KFC and Costa drive thrus are back up and running.

But there’s one store shoppers are desperate to find out when they can visit again - IKEA.

The homeware store temporarily closed all its stores on March 20, to help stop the spread of the virus.

Now people are waiting to hear if IKEA stores will reopen again soon, with rumours it could be as early as this Monday (May 18).

Earlier this month, the Mirror reported that Monday was the proposed opening date for 18 stores across the country.

The ECHO approached IKEA to confirm the news and ask if there is a date for the reopening of its Warrington store.

A spokesperson for IKEA said: “For now, all our stores in the UK remain closed. However, we are looking forward to welcoming customers back to our stores as the situation allows, in line with guidance from the UK Government.

“Based on the experience and learnings of other countries in which we operate, we have made extensive plans and will be adopting enhanced safety measures, so that when we do reopen, our co-workers and customers can feel safe and comfortable in our stores, knowing that their health and safety has been at the forefront out our thinking, and will continue to remain our highest priority.”
