IKEA released a new $6 fridge storage essential that will help herbs last so much longer

IKEA .

I dread thinking about how much money I've wasted buying fresh herbs, only to throw them out before I have a chance to use them. But thankfully, IKEA's new Klippkaktus Herb Storage Container, $6.99, is here to change that.

If you find that your herbs wilt and perish before you've finished your weekly meal prep, opting for dedicated herb storage is an affordable and easy way to get more for your money and prevent food waste.

The Klippkaktus Herb Storage Container features a solid plastic exterior that prevents herbs from becoming squished, and it's got a watertight design that allows you to keep herbs in water to extend their lifespan, even when they're already cut and inside your fridge. My favorite part might be the handy window, which opens, allowing you to cut herbs for your dinner without opening the entire container.

The watertight container preserves the natural humidity, so you can enjoy flavorful meals with fresh herbs every day.

Why I love it

I love using fresh herbs in my cooking, but while they look perfectly healthy when I buy them, it can take only a matter of days for them to wilt and die completely. This likely has something to do with the way I'm storing them: leaving them inside their flimsy plastic bags, and leaving them in my fridge drawer alongside much heavier veggies, which can easily squish them.

This $6.99 solution is one of the best ways of preserving fresh produce I've encountered. It can sit upright in your refrigerator door, making it easily accessible, which is another way of preventing food waste. I often forget I even have herbs in my refrigerator until I clean it out, so this is a good way of keeping them front of my mind.

And as IKEA points out, you can also use this container to store produce like asparagus, which is another veggie that wilts very fast once cut.

I'll be adding this must-have to my basket on my next IKEA trip. What's your favorite tip for keeping herbs from going bad?
