Ikea outlines new services as it closes stores across England and reopens Cardiff branch

Ikea shut the doors of its Cardiff branch on Friday, October 23 in line with Welsh Government guidelines and is now preparing to temporarily close stores across England, it announced today.

The two-week fire-break in Wales meant that all non-essential retail had to close with restrictions in place until Monday, November 9.

Ikea UK has now confirmed its Cardiff branch will reopen next week when the Welsh Government's lockdown ends with extensive safety measures back in place.

These include protective screens, extra cleaning, hand sanitising stations throughout the store, cashless payment only and additional queuing systems.

Ikea is also urging customers to continue wearing a mask and to come ready prepared with shopping lists.

Meanwhile, stores across England will close on Thursday, November 5 as the country prepares for a four-week lockdown to help slow the spread of coronavirus.

Customers will still be able to buy from Ikea online, however, and through a range of Click and Collect and home delivery services.

Ikea is introducing a new contactless Click and Collect service to all stores in England, free for purchases over £300 and a new Click and Deliver to DPD pick up points across the country from £2.

Home delivery is also available from £4 while Swedish Food Markets and takeaway services will remain open, it has said.

Country Retail Manager and Chief Sustainability Officer, Peter Jelkeby, said: "COVID has forced all of us to adapt and adjust in extraordinary circumstances.

"Since the first lockdown we have put all our efforts into keeping our customers and co-workers safe and enabling our customers to continue to shop with us in new and convenient ways, including our Click and Collect and delivery services.

"Once again, we want to thank all our customers for their support and our co-workers for their amazing agility and togetherness.

"We look forward to continuing to support customers through our digital channels and welcoming everyone back into our stores soon."
