IKEA launches first Christmas ad with original grime track

Everyone’s favourite Scandi homeware store has joined the Christmas advert race with its very first festive ad.

Dubbed ‘silence the critics’ the IKEA ad launched in the UK and Ireland today encouraging people to defy ‘home shame’ and open up their abodes to guests this festive season.

The ad features a couple with their child at home who are waiting for guests to come over but their not-so-friendly ornaments start to taunt them about the state of their home with an original grime track by MC D Double E.

The couple decide to spruce up the space with IKEA products, leaving everything just merry.

UK and Ireland marketing manager, Sarah Green, says: “Our first IKEA Christmas advert focuses on the phenomenon of ‘home shame’ - encouraging people to overcome the negative voices in their head holding them back from open up their homes.

“It was born from the common feeling that, along with the seasonal joys, a lot of us feel a looming sense of dread when it comes to hosting others with many of us feel ashamed of our homes over the Christmas period. We believe that every home can and should be worthy of a get-together and that with a little imagination, some clever products and ideas, there’s no reason not to be proud to invite your nearest and dearest over. This campaign aims to inspire us all to get our homes party-ready and ‘Silence the Critics’, once and for all.”

While no one should ever feel ashamed of their home, the ad provides a healthy dose of décor inspiration for when you want a touch-up.

Earlier this week, M&S launched its Christmas ad featuring Paddy McGuinness and Emma Willis. You can watch that here.
