Ikea issues warning to shoppers planning on joining large queues

Swedish furniture giant Ikea reopened across the UK this month, including its store in Warrington.

Stores were quickly bombarded with shoppers, with large queues filling car parks hours before doors were even open .

The re-opening of the stores sparked an unprecedented demand and now Ikea has issued a warning which could save you plenty of time, reports Birmingham Live.

Peter Jelkeby, IKEA’s Country Retail Manager for the UK and Ireland, has told customers: "Those wishing purely to return items are encouraged to do so at a later date. IKEA has a 365 day returns policy."

The warning comes after some large queues were added to by customers wanting to return items and acquire refunds.

Ikea has made the decision to warn people in a bid to reduce queuing outside and alleviate demand for its staff.

Currently, the chain is implementing strict social distancing measures at stores.

Mr Jelkeby said the safety of workers and customers was IKEA's biggest priority.

He added: "We are working to a comprehensive global Reopening Manual, which is adapted and fully aligned to meet and support UK guidance and social distancing requirements.

"The plan is developed nationally and then adapted to each region, nation and store. Risk, legal and Public Affairs have maintained a consistent dialogue with the authorities, including the UK government, devolved administrations, Primary Authority, health bodies and others to ensure we have clarity at all times on what the plan needs to deliver."
