Ikea issues customer warning to stop crowds of shoppers as it prepares to reopen

IKEA has made a huge announcement to customers as it prepares to reopen in order to stop crowds flocking and lengthy queues.

The Swedish retailer is planning for its safe and phased reopening as lockdown slowly eases.

While in Scotland there is no set date for when IKEA will reopen, a handful stores down south made a comeback this month.

Bosses have now released a message to shoppers with a request they hope will be followed, The Mirror reports.

Peter Jelkeby, IKEA’s Country Retail Manager for the UK and Ireland, has announced a list of measures the business is rolling out to keep staff and customers safe.

And it includes a plea to shoppers who might be thinking of trying to queue up to return unwanted items.

It reads: "Those wishing purely to return items are encouraged to do so at a later date. IKEA has a 365 day returns policy."

Customers are also urged to come prepared with ready-made lists and their own bags in a bid to speed up the shopping process and limit the chances of virus transmission.

IKEA says its UK plans incorporate learnings from the reopening of IKEA stores in China, North America and the rest of Europe.

Specific requirements were also set out in the UK government’s workplace guidance and the by the British Retail Consortium.
