IKEA is giving all students free money this month - here's how to get it

Hundreds of thousands of students are soon set to start university this month, and packed up with them is likely to be a car crammed full of saucepans, bedding and the obligatory Pot Noodle.

To help shave some cash off the big pre-uni shop, IKEA has decided to hand out a free £10 voucher to university students this September and October (depending on where you live or are heading to uni).

Reading IKEA is kicking the offer off first, available from the 1st - 30th September, with likes of Cardiff and Lakeside starting the £10 free money deal on the 7th September, before Southampton and Coventry hand out theirs on the 9th.

Warrington, Leeds, Sheffield and Birmingham will be last to offer their student freebie, which will begin there from mid-September, on the 14th and 16th. We've got the full list of dates and places below.

The bargain flat pack furniture brand will hand out the free £10 vouchers to all students that spend £50 or more in store, and can also show a valid student ID (including NUS Cards, UNiDAYS ID or official university student ID).

Sadly you can't use the voucher on IKEA's famous food (AFP)

Originally spotted by bargain hunters on deals forum HotUKDeals , the offer will be valid at select stores in September and October, including branches in Cardiff, Yorkshire and the West Midlands - check your local below.

List of stores students can get £10 off a £50 spend

  • Cardiff 7-29 September 2019 (inclusive)
  • Lakeside 7-13 September 2019 (inclusive)
  • North West - Warrington 16-26 September 2019 (inclusive)
  • Reading 1-30 September 2019 (inclusive)
  • Southampton 9 September- 4 October 2019 (inclusive)
  • West Midlands - Coventry 9 September- 4 October (inclusive)
  • West Midlands - Birmingham 14 September – 13 October 2019 (inclusive)
  • Yorkshire - Leeds 16 September – 6 October 2019 (inclusive)
  • Yorkshire - Sheffield 16 September – 6 October 2019 (inclusive)

You'll have to spend the whole £50 in a single transaction, then show your ID to the cashier before you pay, and you'll be handed a special receipt with a QR code on that entitles you to a free £10 spend.

Simply show the QR code receipt again, alongside your ID, when you want to spend your free £10 voucher, which has no minimum spend.

The only downside is, everyone ends up buying the same stuff (Bloomberg)

Sadly, the offer won't work online, or if you're using a gift card, plus you can't use it in the IKEA Cafe, IKEA Bistro, IKEA Swedish Food Market and IKEA Restaurant. Gutted.

IKEA is famous for its super affordable wares, making it perfect for anyone heading off to uni. For example, we spotted a five-piece kitchen pan set for £8, quilt cover with pillowcases from £13, and of course those all-important fairy lights from £7.

If you want even more money off your shop, you can also sign up to IKEA's 'Family Card' which, despite the name, isn't solely for families, and gets you money off your shop, as well as free tea and coffee in the IKEA cafe.
