IKEA hit by shortages with 1,000 products at risk of running out

IKEA has confirmed that it has been affected by the lorry driver shortage and global supply crisis, with 1,000 products being at risk of selling out.

Shoppers headed to Edinburgh's local branch at Loanhead may leave disappointed by the lack of stock on many items such as mattresses.

The chain stated that every one of its 22 UK and Ireland shops have been affected by the shortages.

As reported by Birmingham Live, customers around the country are furious about leaving their local stores empty handed.

It is said that the crisis is a direct result of both Brexit and the ongoing pandemic.

A spokesperson for the company stated: "Like many retailers, we are experiencing ongoing challenges with our supply chains due to Covid-19 and labour shortages, with transport, raw materials and sourcing all impacted.

"In addition, we are seeing higher customer demand as more people are spending more time at home.

"As a result, we are experiencing low availability in some of our ranges, including mattresses."

The spokesperson added: "What we are seeing is a perfect storm of issues, including the disruption of global trade flows and a shortage of drivers, which have been exacerbated by the pandemic and Brexit."
