IKEA Edinburgh hands out Christmas trees to locals to spread festive cheer

Locals will be able to pick up a Christmas tree at IKEA's Edinburgh store in Loanhead.

The furniture store will be offering the trees to locals as well as staff and charities for free after reduced footfall because of travel restrictions.

You'll be able to pick up a. tree whilst stocks last, IKEA told Edinburgh Live on Thursday.

A spokesperson for the store said: "To help spread a little festive cheer at a time when it’s much needed, IKEA Edinburgh is giving away its remaining Christmas trees, while stocks last.

"With Covid-19 travel restrictions impacting footfall to the store, we are delighted to offer them to customers, charities and our co-workers in this way, to ensure that they go to a good home this Christmas."

Restrictions mean people cannot travel into Edinburgh from other council areas, including Midlothian, Fife and East Lothian, with the city under level three of the coronavirus framework.

Nicola Sturgeon has warned that people should not travel to the city to do their Christmas shopping, impacting footfall at retail businesses.
