IKEA apologise to customers for inconvenience due to 'planned evacuation' of Dublin store

IKEA have apologised to Dublin customers for "any inconvenience" caused after shoppers were asked to leave the furniture superstore in Ballymun this morning.

Shoppers were asked to vacate the building just after 10am as part of a planned evacuation but have since been allowed to return.

The store is now open for business as normal.

An IKEA spokesperson said: “The safety of our customers and co-workers is always the highest priority for IKEA.

"We can confirm that a planned evacuation took place at the IKEA Dublin store this morning.

"Co-workers and customers returned to the store a short time later and the store is open for business. We apologise for any inconvenience caused to our customers.”

It's the second time the IKEA store has been evacuated in recent months, with an earlier evacuation taking place in March.

Video footage and pictures circulated on social media showing a crowd of people being told to leave the Dublin store.

It later emerged this evacuation was part of a fire drill.
