IKEA and LEGO have teamed up to create a new playful storage solution range called BYGGLEK.
The products from the long-awaited collaboration will go on sale from 1 October at IKEA stores across the UK and online at ikea.com.
The new collection features a fun series of storage boxes with signature LEGO studs and a special LEGO brick set.
The range features four different products, including one set of three small boxes, two sets of bigger boxes and one set of LEGO bricks.
Kids will also be able to use existing LEGO bricks with the products, turning storage into part of the play time experience. And hopefully making tidying up just as much fun as creating a mess.
The design inspiration behind the range to combine functionality and play is front and centre of the collection, with both designers from IKEA and LEGO hoping the items caters for both adults and kids at home.
Speaking about the initial design ideas, Andreas Fredriksson, designer at IKEA of Sweden said: “At IKEA, we always believe in the power of play. Play lets us explore, experiment, dream and discover. Where adults often see mess, children see a stimulating creative environment, and BYGGLEK will help bridge the gap between these two views to ensure more creative play in homes around the world.
Fredriksson adds: "The BYGGLEK collection match perfectly with other IKEA products, making it possible to have your children’s creativity becoming a nice and unique piece of decoration at home.”
Rasmus Buch Løgstrup, designer at the LEGO Group added: “BYGGLEK is more than boxes. It is storage and play intertwined. BYGGLEK provides families with a product range that helps create space for more play in their everyday - fuelling creativity, making it possible to have more fun together. It’s a possibility to play, display the cool creations and return to it to replay, remake, recreate or start over. BYGGLEK is all about endless possibilities, just like the LEGO System in Play.”
