Ludhiana’s Tarush Goyal secured All India Rank (AIR) AIR 16 rank in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) (Advanced) results, which were declared by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Sunday.
The 17-year-old had secured AIR 23 in the JEE Mains result declared last month.
“Regular testing helped me to score well and my dream of studying in one of the best IITs will come true now,” he said.
Goyal, who aspires to become a computer science engineer, scored 96.4 % in his Class 12 board examinations. He is a student of BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, Ludhiana.
“I studied 11 hours a day for the JEE Advanced exam. Coaching also helped me to achieve this rank,” he said.
“I did not waste time and revised basic concepts daily,” he added. His favourite subject is mathematics.
In his Class 10 exams, Goyal, then a student of Sat Paul Mittal School, had topped Ludhiana district with 97.8% marks in 2016 in the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) exam. He had also topped the state in National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) held in 2016.
Both his parents are doctors and are currently working as rural medical officers in Ludhiana. His father, Sunil Goyal, works at Dhandara government dispensary while his and mother, Rinkal Goyal, works at the Jassowal government dispensary.
“He was focused and consistent with his studies and we are glad that he got such a good rank,” Rinkal said.
