A promise born from a father's sacrifice
The viral video was shared on Instagram by Dip Nilim, who explained that the gift meant far more to him than any academic or professional achievement.
“People often ask me if an MBA is worth it. For me, the answer was never just about placements, salary, or the degree,” he wrote.
“It was about earning the ability to give back to the people who quietly gave me everything. Growing up, I heard ‘baad mein’ more times than I can count. That day, I finally got to say, ‘Ab aapka number hai’.”
He added that the moment would always mean more than any offer letter, promotion, or paycheck.

The conversation that changed everything
In the video, Nilim recalls an incident from his school days that stayed with him for years.
He overheard his father telling his mother that instead of buying the SUV he had always wanted, he would settle for a more affordable car so he could invest more in his son's education. His father also said he would buy his dream SUV after retirement.
Listening to that conversation, Nilim made a silent promise to himself that he would one day gift his father the SUV he had given up, even if it was just a day before retirement.
A surprise his father never saw coming
Just six months after graduating from IIM Kozhikode, Nilim turned that promise into reality.
He took his father to a car dealership, telling him they were simply there for a test drive. However, after completing the formalities, he revealed that the SUV had actually been purchased for him.
The unexpected revelation left his father overwhelmed with emotion. Fighting back tears, he hugged his son as the family celebrated the special moment.
