‘Ignorant and disrespectful to women’: Bwipo responds after FlyQuest suspension

FlyQuest suspended Bwipo from playing their next playoffs match after the player made “sexist comments” where he said women shouldn’t play League of Legends competitively during their “wrong” time of the month.

Bwipo responded to the suspension in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Hi everyone, I know I fucked up. My comments were ignorant and disrespectful to women, including those close to me,” he said on Sept. 9. “I’m sorry to those I hurt. I regret using my platform to fuel vitriol and sexism instead of support, and I’ll be taking steps to reflect, listen, and do better.”

In a recent League livestream, Bwipo shared his experience with his girlfriend, explaining how she would become easily irritated during her menstrual cycle. He suggested that women shouldn’t play the game competitively at that time of the month.

In addition to his one-match suspension, FlyQuest is donating Bwipo’s event prize money to causes that support women in gaming.

Bwipo is known for speaking his mind, but lately, he has been at the center of several controversies. His remarks about the Korean BBQ dinner—alleging Cloud9 celebrated a scrim win with a meal—sparked discussion in the community. Dhokla denied a fist bump with Bwipo, and this latest incident has only added to the scrutiny.

FlyQuest will be without the services of their veteran top laner in their upcoming match against Vivo Keyd Stars in the LTA Championship on Sept. 20. If they lose that series, they’ll be relegated to the lower bracket and will have to win a series to secure their place in the finals.

The team has already qualified for Worlds 2025 with their impressive performance in LTA North Split 3. Rookie top laner, İbrahim “Gakgos” Samet Bulut, will likely replace Bwipo in FlyQuest’s next match.
