THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: From the festival office to mode of transportation, IFFK is endorsing an eco-friendly way this year. The festival office has been built with used tyres and palm fronds and clothes have been used to build the entrance. About 140 tyres have been artistically stacked up to build the festival office. Adequate ventilation has also been ensured in the office.
The festival office has been designed with an idea to promote the values of recycling and reuse.
“I have been designing the festival office for the past 17 years. I believe our team has always succeeded in bringing diversity each year by using different mediums. This year we took 200 unproductive tyres to create the festival office. It was really difficult for us to find the tyres of the same size and we collected those from tyre repair shops. We made a frame and hung the tyres which were connected with bolts. The colours have been given according to this year’s theme. My team has been working hard both day and night for the past six days,” said Hylesh T, the artist who created the festival office.
Electric cars will also be used for official purposes this year. The organisers of IFFK, Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, have tied up with the KSEB to take this environmentally-friendly step. Electric cars will form part of the IFFK’s official fleet for the duration of the festival. The KSEB’s aim in partnering with IFFK is not only to spread awareness on ways of combating pollution, but also to encourage people to shift to eco-friendly means of transportation.
