IFA slam 'grossly irresponsible' prank videos involving farm machinery on TikTok

The Irish Farmers' Association (IFA) have issued a warning after a series of dangerous "prank" videos involving farm machinery circulated on the popular app TikTok.

The IFA have collected a series of these videos showing "reckless" behaviour on farms.

One video involves a young man driving a quad bike up a steep ridge before it slides back down, almost overturning, RTE reports.

Other clips reportedly show tractors overtaking each other at speed and two men sitting in the bucket of a moving digger as it swings around at speed, some height off the ground.

In a statement today, IFA president Tim Cullinan said: "This practice is grossly irresponsible and is an accident waiting to happen.

"I am disgusted that people could be so casual and have no regard for the dangers involved in what they are doing."

He added: “Too often, people are not willing to act responsibly and identify the risks,” he said.

“All farmers and contractors need to make it clear to their employees that engaging in these practices is a sackable offence."

There have been eight deaths on Irish farms so far this year.

A TikTok spokesperson told The Irish Daily Mirror: "The safety of users is our top priority, and we do not allow content that encourages or replicates dangerous challenges that might lead to injury.

"Our safety team is investigating, and we will take appropriate action in line with our Community Guidelines."
