IFA awaiting NI Executive update before deciding on Irish Cup fans

It is hoped a decision will be made by the end of this week whether some fans will be allowed to attend next week's Irish Cup final.

Monday's semi-finals featuring Coleraine vs Ballymena United and Glentoran vs Cliftonville will both be played behind closed doors at Windsor Park.

It remains unclear whether a number of supporters will be permitted to attend the final four days later at the same venue.

It is understood the Irish FA is keeping the situation under review and expects more clarity from the Northern Ireland Executive on Thursday, with any decision ultimately based on government and medical guidance.

Deputy First Minister Michelle O'Neill tweeted on Monday that local government ministers would meet this week to discuss the Executive's Pathway to Recovery efforts, including whether fans can attend matches across a number of sports.

She said: "Ministers will meet this week to discuss the Executive’s Pathway to Recovery efforts. Including an update from health on localised Covid clusters, & whether for instance we can move ahead to reopen pools & allow spectators to attend local games across GAA, soccer, rugby etc."
