A limited number of extra places will be available for people to take part in the Nos Galan Road Races in Mountain Ash this year.
Following the second release of places for Nos Galan 2019, all places have now gone in both the adult fun run and the men’s elite race.
But further limited places will be made available on Monday, September 23, at 6pm in these categories.
There has been significant demand for race places following the opening of registration on Monday, September 9.
There are still limited places available for both the women’s elite race and all children’s races with further places in both of these categories also being released today.
Due to the huge demand this year with more than 1,500 already registered to run, it is likely all places in all races will be gone by the end of September.
The Nos Galan Races take place on New Year’s Eve every year and include fun runs for children aged eight to 15, a male elite race, a female elite race, an adult fun run led by a mystery runner, as well as a firework display.
The races, which celebrate the life and achievements of Guto Nyth Brân, were founded in 1958 by local runner Bernard Baldwin and are run over 5km around Mountain Ash town centre.
The main event starts with a church service at Llanwynno, and then a wreath is laid on the grave of Guto Nyth Brân at Llanwynno graveyard.
After lighting a torch, it is carried to the nearby town of Mountain Ash, where the main race takes place.
