If you vape while driving you could lose your licence, police warn

If you vape while driving you could be hit with a hefty fine or even lose your licence, police have warned.

While it's still not illegal to vape behind the wheel, if clouds of smoke from the e-cigarettes disrupt your visibility you could be prosecuted for driving without due care and attention, reports The Star.

Police have warned that the combination of vaping and driving could lead to fatal crashes due to visibility issues caused by the vapour.

This warning has come in the wake of statistics in 2018 which showed more than three million people nationwide are now vapers.

Seargent Carl Knapp, from the Sussex Road Policing Unit, said he strongly advised people to give their full attention to the road when driving, and to avoid anything which could be distracting.

He said: “If you are going to vape I advise that you open your windows and blow the vapour directly out, just ensure you are in full control of your vehicle before doing so.”

If you are found guilty of driving without due care and attention you could receive up to nine points on your licence and a £2,500 fine.
