If you sit in the secretariat, you get a rosy picture, says MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan

BHOPAL: Amid Uma Bharti’s tweets on bureaucracy, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on said that he regularly meets people because he wants to understand the reality.

“Otherwise, if you sit at the state secretariat, you are made to believe in a rosy picture,” he said.

The CM said this at the inauguration of the conclave, ‘Madhya Pradesh: India’s emerging export tiger’, held under Vanijya Utsav of the

commerce ministry. The confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) joined hands with the state to help organize the event. Exporters from MP also participated in the function and later discussed how the trade could further be developed in MP.

The chief minister announced a Madhya Pradesh Export Promotion Council and said it would start functioning within a week. Export promotion committees would be constituted in every district, Chouhan said, and launched the MP trade portal and export helpline. Chouhan said 64 products have been identified under the onedistrict-one-product scheme for promoting exports.

“From the medicinal quality of garlic from Neemuch to bamboo products of MP, there are immense export possibilities in the state,” he said.

Chouhan recalled that he had once come across an exporter in a small village and learnt that he was exporting fodder. “I travel out and meet people. I call this ‘jan darshan’. It is necessary to keep oneself aware of the ground realities. If you sit in the secretariat and operate from there, you are made to believe the rosy picture around you.”

In a lighter vein, he hastened to add that he wasn’t saying this about Sanjay Shukla (principal secretary, industry), who was sharing the dais with him.
