'If you're not prepared to quarantine, don't go abroad': Women who refused to self-isolate after Spain holiday hit with big fine

Two women have been hit with fines for refusing to self-isolate after returning from a trip to Spain.

The pair, both from Ashton-under-Lyne, have been fined £1,000 each for breaching quarantine regulations.

Current coronavirus rules require anyone returning from Spain to self-isolate for 14 days.

But police said the women returned from a long weekend away and 'continued with their day-to-day life'.

One of them attended a 'non-urgent' hospital appointment and the other went to work several times, lying to her employer about returning from abroad, police said.

In a post on the GMP Tameside North and East Facebook page, officer PS Jackson warned people not to travel abroad if they are not prepared to quarantine.

The post read: "Another two £1000 fines issued for breaching quarantine regulations after returning from Spain.

"Two females from the Ashton area decided that the rules did not apply to them and after a long weekend away, they refused to quarantine.

"They have continued with their day to day life, attending a hospital appointment (which was not urgent and could easily have been re-arranged) and the other went to work several times and has lied to their employer about returning from abroad.

"Quarantine is inconvenient but if you are not prepared to do it do not go abroad. It’s very simple.

"Officers will be on duty tonight ensuring that the pubs and takeaways are adhering to the Covid rules. PS Jackson."
