'If you keep a positive mindset...': Virat Kohli asks social media fans to stop trolling

NEW DELHI: Fame and popularity comes at a price. And in this age of social media, fans tend to go overboard and criticize more and praise cricketers less.

India superstar cricketer and former captain Virat Kohli has also been subjected to unnecessary flak and criticism on social media on many occasions.

Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Now a video is viral on the internet in which Kohli is appealing to fans to use social media positively.

Kohli says in the video, "Use all your gadgets and use them positively. You all have access to social media, use it for good things and keep a good positive mindset. Your gadgets give you access to gather information, but look at the world with a positive mindset. There should be no trolling, no negativity, no making fun of people, don't feed off negative things and if you keep a positive mindset, you will be rewarded accordingly."

Currently on the tour of Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Kohli would be hoping to come good with the bat and come out of his poor form.

Kohli has averaged merely 22.72 in six matches in 2024, the lowest in his career.

The 36-year-old has scored just one fifty this year - 70 against New Zealand in the second innings of the first Test at Bengaluru, while his last Test century came in July 2023 against the West Indies.

With India set to play the first Test in Perth from November 22, Kohli can hope to strike form from the word go.

Kohli has till now played two Tests in Perth - one at the WACA in which he scored 44 and 75 in the two innings in January 2012 which Australia won by an innings and 37 runs.

The second Test that Kohli played in Perth was as captain in 2018 and he became the first batsman to score a Test hundred at the new Perth stadium as he scored his 25th Test century at the age of 30.

India need to win 4 Tests in Australia to directly qualify for the World Test Championships final that is scheduled to be held at Lord's in June 2025.
