On July 3, 2025, both the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and Transport Canada announced a joint recall by helmet maker 509 and Polaris for a specific range of helmets because they may not offer effective protection in the event of a crash.
Several models and sizes are affected, and certain models are only eligible for repair, while others are eligible for your choice of repair, replacement, or a refund. To keep things simple, we're going to put the information into a table for ease of reading.
Three separate issues exist, according to 509's report to Transport Canada. All 509 Tactical 3.0 and 509 for Polaris Tactical 3.0 helmets may not provide sufficient protection in a crash. Only small and medium sizes of the 509 Tactical 2.0 helmets with Fidlock and 509 for Polaris Tactical 2.0 helmets, which were manufactured in 2023, may not offer adequate protection in a crash.
Finally, some 509 and 509 for Polaris helmets with Fidlock that were manufactured from 2020 to the present and have a stainless steel glide bar may have the webbing on their chin straps routed incorrectly. This could, in turn, allow the buckle to separate, which could increase the risk of injury in a crash. As of July 1, 2025, 509 has received no reports of any such injuries in Canada, and one report of an incident that ended in a concussion for a person wearing one of the affected helmets in the US.
