If you fall ill during annual leave you can actually get those days back in Ireland

There aren't many things worse than signing out of work on annual leave and then coming down with an illness.

When this happens, holiday plans go down the drain and you're left regretting the waste of time off.

But you shouldn't lose out on any annual leave days.

According to Citizens Information, people who fall ill while off work on annual leave could be entitled to those days back. You will need to go down the official channels though.

They say: "If you are sick while you are on annual leave, you should get a medical certificate from your GP (doctor) as soon as possible to cover the days you were sick.

"Give the medical certificate to your employer as soon as you return to work. This way, the sick days will not count as annual leave, and you can take your annual leave at a later date.

"Your employer cannot make you to take annual leave for time you were on certified sick leave."
