'If we are a serious club' - Chelsea fans in agreement after Matthijs de Ligt transfer ‘offer’

Chelsea fans have expressed their excitement at a potential transfer for Matthijs de Ligt.

The Blues have once again been linked with a move for the Juventus defender, as his agent Mino Raiola attempts to find him a way out of Juventus.

Whilst it has previously been reported that he is ‘content’ with the Serie A giants, a lack of playing time could alter that position and lead to him exiting the club despite having only joined from Dutch giants Ajax in 2019.

It is suggested that Chelsea are one of a number of clubs to have been offered his services, whilst Premier League rivals Manchester City are also among those who have been in talks regarding his signature.

It goes without saying that the Blues could potentially do with a centre-back with the respective futures of Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, Thiago Silva and Cesar Azpilicueta looking somewhat uncertain.

All four defenders are out of contract at Stamford Bridge come the end of the campaign, and whilst there appears to have been discussions regarding potential extensions, none have come to an agreement over an extended stay in west London.

Should they all leave, then the Blues will almost certainly be aiming to recruit a centre-back, especially after their failed move for Jules Kounde in the summer.

Chelsea fans took to Twitter following the reports suggesting that de Ligt could well be the option that they should be looking for.

Since arriving at Juventus from Ajax two seasons ago, de Ligt has made 84 appearances in all for the Italian giants, 77 of those being starts.

It is reported that he has a release clause of £130m written into his current contract, a deal that is set to run until the summer of 2024.

He has claimed a Serie A title with Juventus, whilst having also won the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana.
