If Van Gogh was at work now instead of the 19th century, would the paintings be so admired?

If Van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec et al had not lived and painted all the works that now fetch millions at auction, would paintings created in the same styles by living artists today demand the same attention and money? If not, why not?
