If this playbook finds its way to Jacksonville, the Dawgs are doomed

Georgia fans have witnessed a severe depression in offensive production post-Tennessee, and I’m not referring to the tropical depression that caused it to rain cats and dogs Athens last night, maybe-or-maybe-not-understandably slowing the pace for both the Dawgs’ and Cats’ respective offenses.

Prior to the Bulldogs lone loss this season, they averaged 42.8 points per game. In that loss, James Coley’s offense managed to out-gain the opponent by 162 yards and only have 17 points and a double-overtime loss to show for it.

So clearly this isn’t an issue of not being able to create yards. It’s an issue of not using an insanely talented group of players in the most effective manner possible.

Sure, last night’s precipitation-plagued game at Sanford Stadium looked like a game played closer to the year 1919 rather than 2019. Jake Fromm finished with nine completions on twelve attempts for an astounding 35 yards. You can be astounded in a bad way, right? But D’Andre Swift impressed, churning out 179 yards and two touchdowns against a Kentucky defense that knew exactly what was coming to them.

The Wildcats still couldn’t stop it. With two weeks to prepare and a defense that has recorded thirteen more sacks than Georgia’s, Florida’s can certainly stop it. They’re ranked twenty-fifth in total defense, and though UGA’s is ranked fifteen spots higher, the Dawgs’ D will have a long afternoon in Jacksonville unless Coley’s play calling can start catching talented defenses by surprise and stay on the field long enough to get into the red zone.
