If the Steelers can’t sign CB Cameron Sutton, the entire offseason changes

The legal tampering period for NFL teams to start to work out contracts with free agents starts on March 13. This is when you hear a lot about players agreeing to terms with teams but there can be nothing announced formally until March 15.

We have been steadfast in our belief that the Pittsburgh Steelers and cornerback Cameron Sutton will work out a contract that keeps Sutton with the Steelers and off the free-agent market. This will allow the Steelers to focus the early parts of the draft on fortifying the defensive front seven and offensive line.

Pittsburgh’s secondary isn’t perfect by any means but the inclusion of Sutton along with Levi Wallace and Arthur Maulet is a solid trio of cornerbacks made better by the Steelers pass rush and All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick.

But I suppose we must entertain the notion that Sutton does choose to re-sign with the Steelers. If Sutton signs elsewhere, that leaves a huge void in the secondary. All those mock drafts with the Steelers taking a cornerback in the first round will suddenly be scarily accurate. And fixing the offensive line will have to take a back seat.
