If the Cardinals don’t draft Kyler Murray, how far will he fall?

Draft disclaimer: any rumors we here this week are usually just rumors for smokescreen purposes, but let’s get to it anyways. There are some rumors out there — being attributed to only the most famous football person Sources — that that are saying the Cardinals are not going to draft Kyler Murray and they may take Nick Bosa. Of course, this could be because the Arizona front office wants to trade one or two spots back to pick up an extra selection and still get Murray, but let’s take the rumors at face value. Where would Murray end up?

The guess here would be that someone would move up to pick Murray, but the team that picks the Heisman trophy winner would have to have the scheme to fit Murray as well. That limits the list of teams who would be interested in scooping up the former Oklahoma quarterback.

In fact, if no one trades up, then Murray is in for a big fall. The Niners have Jimmy Garoppolo. The Jets just drafted Sam Darnold. The Raiders could pick Murray, but then they’d have to trade Derek Carr and his contract makes that extremely difficult. Bruce Arians likes big-armed quarterbacks and Murray may not be tall enough to be picked by Tampa Bay. The Giants apparently have no interest in taking a quarterback period at No. 6 because they love Eli Manning. The Jaguars, Lions, and Bills all have their quarterbacks on their roster. The Lions could take a chance, but I doubt Murray fits in with Patricia’s preferred offensive attack, and they would have to trade Matt Stafford. Kyler would need to be at least 3-times taller than he is now for Jon Elway to consider him at all. That leaves us with the Bengals.

Yes, Murray fell all the way to 12 if the Cardinals don’t pick him with the top pick in the draft. Zac Taylor may love that. He comes from the Sean McVay coaching tree so Taylor has to be an offensive genius — yes, that was sarcasm. In any case, the Bengals might take a chance and if they don’t the Dolphins definitely will.

Again, Murray is going No. 1. If he doesn’t go No. 1 he is going in the top ten. Eleven of the past 12 quarterbacks taken in the first round were traded up for, and the only quarterback who wasn’t traded up for was Baker Mayfield.
