If Rams draft WR, late-round red zone threat is an option

If there’s one position the Los Angeles Rams are set at, it’s likely wide receiver. With Brandin Cooks, Robert Woods and Cooper Kupp returning, their top three receivers will all be back in the mix again for Jared Goff.

Josh Reynolds is a quality No. 4 receiver to have, too, giving the Rams excellent depth at the top of the chart. However, that doesn’t mean they’ve completely ruled out drafting one next week. If the right prospect is available in the later rounds, the Rams could pounce.

Les Snead told Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times that a taller red zone threat would be a potential target for the Rams.

“Is there a guy, maybe a taller guy that gives you a red-zone threat?” Snead said, mentioning that if the Rams do draft a receiver, it’d be in the later rounds.

Jalen Hurd, who’s a 6-foot-4 receiver from Baylor and a former Tennessee running back, could be an intriguing option for the Rams. He’s a raw talent having played wide receiver for one full season, but the potential is definitely there. Last season, he caught 69 passes for 946 yards and four touchdowns.

Syracuse’s Jamal Custis is 6-foot-5 and ran a 4.5 40-yard dash at the combine, also jumping 34.5 inches. He could be someone the Rams target in Round 7 or as a priority free agent, depending on whether he gets drafted or not.

Reynolds is really the only receiver on the Rams’ roster with good height (6-foot-3) but he’s not the most physical player. Finding someone who can box out defenders and elevate in the red zone could help the Rams in an area of the field where they struggled a year ago.
